“Hidden” Momentum in a Current Loop
نویسندگان
چکیده
The current is not “shielded” from the external electric field, and does not correspond to the current in either a resistive or superconducting wire. The definition (1) was suggested by Daniel Vanzella. See also [1]. The expression (2) is not gauge invariant. However, we will only be concerned with comparison of energies of charges at two different potentials. For additional remarks on eq. (2), see [10].

J.J. Thomson and “Hidden” Momentum
The term “hidden momentum” was introduced by Shockley [1] in 1967 to describe the small amount of net mechanical momentum that must exist in systems “at rest” that have nonzero electromagnetic field momentum. The classic example is a current loop (Ampèrian magnetic dipole) in an external static electric field (perhaps due to a single electric charge) [4, 5]. This example had been considered by ...
متن کاملLetter to editor: Palliative care: The hidden loop of caring for Iranian children with cancer
The growing number of children with chronic diseases is a global issue. Cancer is one of the most important chronic diseases in children. According to WHO, the number of children with cancer varies from 50 to 200 cases per million children worldwide .However, the incidence of childhood cancers in Iranian girls and boys is reported to be 48-112 and 51-141 per million children, respectively .Canc...
متن کاملThe Secret Life of the Dipole
A new force on the magnetic dipole, which exists in the presence of both electric and magnetic fields, is described. Its origin due to the ‘hidden momentum’, implications and possible experimental tests are discussed. We are familiar with the acceleration of charged particles, such as protons and electrons, by uniform electromagnetic fields. But neutral particles can be accelerated by uniform f...
متن کاملA Novel Data Compression Technique for 420 Ma Current Loop Transmitters
This paper presents a new data compression method for current loop transmitters. In this method, the 4-20 mA current domain is divided into some equal pieces that are used for distinct data domain with a constant relative resolution, resulting in widening the signal span. This technique eliminated the need for high resolution ADC’s or DAC’s in communication of 4-20mA current loop signals. Furth...
متن کامل“Hidden” Momentum of a Steady Current Distribution in a System at “Rest”
Can a steady current distribution contain a nonzero total mechanical momentum, often called hidden momentum [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 6, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13], due to the motion of the charge carriers? A steady current distribution Jsteady(r) is one with no time dependence. If the current density Jsteady flows in conductors, they must be at rest. The divergence of a steady current distribution has no ...
